A Taste of the 3 European ToursThe Budapest Adventure - Central Europe - 2 Weeks
UK - France - Belgium - Germany - Czech Republic - Slovakia -
Hungary - Slovenia - Austria - Switzerland - Luxembourg
A chance to take in the spellbinding properties of Central Europe where we once again take the long way round to Budapest. Meeting many different types of incredibly friendly people from a variety of cultures along the way.
During any of the 3 European Tours we will ride through many magical lands steeped in history, culture and above all amazing bike roads that will test your stamina, endurance and riding skills while still maintaining a healthy balance of relaxation on the evenings.
We will journey through the back roads of Burgundy through fortified villages, chateaux and abbeys which bear testimony to the wealth and power of medieval France into Switzerland to experience beautiful mountain regions such as Mont Blanc, Matterhorn and the Eiger with dramatic skylines, deep gorges and traditional Alpine villages. On through Italy to ride alongside waterways that have been major trading routes since the fall of the Roman empire. This is a land that has inspired artists and historians to come from all over the world.
Slovenia appears small but has huge geography, cobalt blue lakes are fed by rivers from the snowy peaks of the Southern Alps. Mountain sides cut into forested valleys and grassy meadows. Gentle hillsides covered in vineyards roll down towards the Adriatic Sea as we make our way past fairytale castles from the 16th century. A quick ride through Croatia now as we wind our way through densely forested hills and stunning blue waterfalls that cascade through unusual limestone landscapes as we head for the main destination of Budapest.
At last we arrive in what is becoming known as the 'Paris of the East' - Budapest. You will have 3 days at this location but we guarantee that this is by far not enough time to see all the wonders that this city has to offer. Hungary has a long history that can be accredited to it's central location. With it's open plains and protection from the Carpathian mountains, this land has every type of landscape you could possibly ask for. Thermal spas await weary travellers amongst such other delights such as local cuisine and night time entertainment. This is an opportunity to leave the bikes behind for a while and explore by foot a wondrous city but for those hardened riders there are still many places to visit by bike here such as Lake Balaton with it's turquoise waters which is always popular with the biking fraternity of this region..
There is something for everyone in this city and our very own Hungarian tour guide will be on hand to ensure everyone finds what they are looking for here. Leave plenty of room in your top boxes, for this city is not only full of history and culture but also shopping centres, this is a good reason for the girls not to pack the entire wardrobe!
You will be sad to leave Budapest but there is still more to come. Over mountains and into Slovakia amidst the Tatras as we continue on with our journey through silent valleys, rugged cliffs and emerald lakes with perhaps an option to stop and enjoy a gypsy Koliba meal!
Austria affords us some of the best biking roads in the world as we kick it up a gear and become totally immersed in the total pleasure that is known as The Alpine Run. There is so much to see and enjoy on this section of the adventure that we have dedicated an entire trip to the Alps for pure unadulterated biking pleasure. Mountains, rivers, lakes, twisty's and of course...snow! These roads are the stuff that dreams are made of and to top it all off the area is incredibly biker friendly with it's many cafes, inns and hotels advertising that bikers are welcome here.
Czech Republic greets us with miles upon miles of fruit trees and vineyards. Open roads and friendly people in an old world country full of tales of Bohemian knights performing heroic deeds. This truly is a land brimming with exotic palaces and castles that house stories of history and adventure. On into Germany for amazing bike roads as we travel the Black Forest passing through fairytale villages and green wooded valleys set beneath high cliff faces. There is never much doubt that you will get a good meal and a decent beer here, truly a land for food and drink enthusiasts.
Belgium is the modest yet magnificent heart of Northern Europe. What makes it special? For some it's the friendly atmosphere; for others, it's the variety of cafes that never close. And for many, it's the classic collection of art and architecture just waiting to be discovered. Or maybe it's just the irresistible chocolates? Superb roads with excellent sleepy towns to stop and have a coffee or a stretch of the legs.
Protected by three walls, forts and miles of underground caverns, Luxembourg City was known to many as the 'Gibraltar of the North'. Much of the old fortifications and battlements remain, promising some truly fascinating sightseeing. For a last ride out; just minutes away is the magnificent Grunewald Forest, perfect end to this touring adventure.
These tours are all about the ride but after a hard days ride, you will always arrive in good time at a beautiful hotel ideally placed for the tour to eat drink and be merry or even if you prefer to relax and rest your weary bones. Ample opportunity is always given to take a stroll around the local areas to soak up local cultures and evening entertainment of the many different regions.
